In this final member newsletter for March, we are continuing our exploration of schemas with a focused look at 3 play schemas: rotation, orientation and transforming.

Understanding Play Schemas is crucial for parents and educators in two key ways. Firstly, it allows us to distinguish between ‘natural urges’ and ‘behaviour’, which can help us better support children's emotional and social development. Secondly, it enables us to plan learning environments that align with children's Play Schemas, which can significantly enhance their learning and mastery of new concepts.

If you need a refresher on Play Schemas, check out the first newsletter in this series: An Introduction to Play Schemas.

In this newsletter we’ll cover:

  • The rotation schema of play: including observations, activity suggestions and resources to use.

  • The orientation schema of play : including observations, activity suggestions and resources to use.

  • The transforming schema of play: including observations, activity suggestions and resources to use.
