The Importance of Sensory Play
I have to confess straight up that I am a HUGE fan of sensory play. Ever since I whipped up a batch of rainbow rice for my first child over 10 years ago, I knew that I was hooked. Because , I was also working as a full time teacher at the time, I focused on simple (yet effective) activities that placed emphasis on setting up trays that took under 5 minutes to create.

This week, I want to talk about how to plan and prepare for sensory play because it isn’t really an activity that you should do on a whim! To avoid chaos, a certain amount of preparation is required so that you don’t fall into the trap of a huge clean up operation!

When you think about sensory play, what springs to mind? A toddler covered in dyed cooked spaghetti making a huge mess? Or perhaps a huge tub of rainbow rice? Whilst there’s no denying that these are examples of typical sensory play that you see on Instagram and Pinterest, they aren’t the only way to embrace it.
