I have to confess straight up that I am a HUGE fan of sensory play. Ever since I whipped up a batch of rainbow rice for my first child over 10 years ago, I knew that I was hooked. Because , I was also working as a full time teacher at the time, I focused on simple (yet effective) activities that placed emphasis on setting up trays that took under 5 minutes to create.
And despite no longer working full time as a teacher, I continued to make simple sensory play bases for my second and third child.
Why? Because children don't actually need incredibly elaborate sensory play bases that take hours to create. It's unlikely that you have time for that and it's also unlikely that your child will play with it for long enough to justify it. The truth is, children can be wowed by what we as adults consider ordinary. They see the wonder in the little things and besides, they are much more able to take play in the direction they want to when we provide them with something simple
In this email, we will be exploring the importance of sensory play and how it helps your child’s development.
